Hi there, I generally don’t have issues with vertigo but I don’t remember the trail feeling too narrow or scared about being too close to the edge. The only part of the hike that made me feel nervous was the very beginning (or end, depending on which direction you go), where it was very windy and I was scared of being blown over! But I don’t think that section was close to the edge – just steep and windy. I hope that helps.

I’m starting to plan a trip for early summer. A question I have about the Cares Trail is about vertigo. We will probably only do the ruta one way. How much of the hike is close to scary drop offs with limited walking space? I have read reviews that this is easy vs. others that say it’s challenging & not for anyone scared of heights. What’s your verdict? Is most of the trail close to the edge or only some parts? Your photos are lovely & don’t seem to show the width of the trail. Thank you!

Hi there, we did this in early April 2024. I think they had snow the week before we were there!

I loved your pictures and am planning a very similar trip right now. Can I ask in what month did you do this trip and take these pictures? I am looking to do this hike in March and am just curious as to the amount of snow to expect

Thanks.
Great place to walk, did a week hiking there a few years ago with hikepyrenees.co.uk an English couple who live there.

Yes. I wouldn’t have minded a SMIDGE more warmth and less rain but overall we had nothing to complain about. We were really lucky to get at least some clear weather each day.

And with goats, cheese, and cider? Wow. What a great trip and it seems like you went at the right time.

Thanks, I thought along those lines. That is rather costly.

Oh sorry, I should have explained! It’s like a mini train that goes up a hill.

I don’t know if I missing something but what is a funicular?
